Wind Chimes Care Tips

Over time, even those wind chimes which have a protective finish will begin to weather - the extent of this will depend upon where you live and how exposed your garden is.  You can, however, prolong the life of your wind chime by following a few simple steps.

Aluminium

Aluminium chimes will not rust, but they may naturally pit when placed outdoors.  Gentle cleaning with fine steel wool will restore the smooth finish.

Bamboo

Bamboo chimes should be brought in during extreme weather or harsh winters.  These can be wiped with a damp cloth to remove any build-up or mould, and it's a good idea to apply a coat of varnish in the spring.

Plastic, Glass, Acrylic

An occasional wash with mild soap and water will keep these sparkling and bright.

Wood

Periodically apply a thing coat of Danish or lemon oil with a clean cloth or brush to all hardwood parts.  Regular oiling will help protect the wood and retard the natural ageing process.
