Care Tips

Aluminium alloy chimes will not rust, but they may naturally pit when placed outdoors. Gentle cleaning with fine steel wool will restore the smooth finish.

Periodically apply a thing coat of Danish or lemon oil with a clean cloth or brush to all hardwood parts. Regular oiling will help protect the wood and retard the natural ageing process.

Origins

Many cultures - particularly those of the East and South Asia, from Bali to Tibet and Japan - have used wind chimes since prehistoric chimes to scare away evil spirits and also to attract benevolent ones.

To this end, Buddhists attached hundreds of elegantly carved, decorated or cast wind chimes to the eaves of sacred buildings and temples.  The resulting sounds, although sometimes quite deafening,  were also believed to promote inner peace.

China and Japan were the first to introduce wind chimes as decorative art into the home.
Health Benefits

Wind chimes are believed to reduce stress and promote relaxation and calmness. Their sounds are considered to have a healing effect on body and mind: the resonance and vibration of the sound is thought to release stress and emotional blockages in the body and calm the mind.

Listening to wind chimes also creates a sense of balance in one's life.

It is also believed that wind chimes can help bring balance and harmony to your garden and home; they are often used in Feng Shui.
