Yin and yang translate from Chinese as "dark-bright", or"negative-positive". The familiar black and white "taichi" symbol represents in ancient Chinese philosophy the concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world.
The co-existence of the opposites is what makes harmony and balance possible, the fundamental belief being that nothing can exist without an opposite driving force.
The white stone disk has the yinyang symbol hand-carved on both sides. Two pairs of red beads with silver trim are affixed above and below the disk and a luxuriant silky red tassel hangs below.
